CORE BELIEFS AND EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

We believe that all students are capable of learning through a shared responsibility of students, families, educators and community which is critical to the student’s success. We believe that each student has a right to an environment that is accessible, emotionally nurturing, physically safe, purposefully engaging, and intellectually challenging thereby preparing all children for the college and career of their choosing.

VISION

To provide for the achievement of every identified child through individualized programs and services.

MISSION

The mission of the Department of Special Education Services is to provide referral, identification, evaluation and instructional services to students identified as disabled through the identification process.  The Department of Special Education works closely with the members of the Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) to locate and identify students with disabilities in need of special education services.

NJDOE 2018 DARE TO DREAM STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

The NJDOE 2018 “DARE TO DREAM” Student Leadership Conference was held on May 22nd at William Paterson University. Eastside High School special education supervisor, Mr. David, organized the trip attended by 28 students, including keynote speaker Steven Craige. Steven, who will be graduating this year, spoke about how his perseverance and grit allowed him to succeed with his studies despite his disabilities. He concluded his speech with one of his original acappella Christian rap songs to the delight of the audience. Following the motivational student presentations, attendees joined workshops that highlighted strategies to prepare for college and career. Students attending felt empowered and teachers inspired from this enjoyable experience.
